Ready to know how our third Wine Republic Tasting went this year? The results will be published here online on 1 August. See you very soon!
About the Tasting:
In conjunction with celebrating 10 years since the launch of our bi-monthly magazine, we held a professional blind tasting on 11 July, followed by a ten-year anniversary celebration.
“We’ve selected some really interesting wines that showcase some of the best and most innovative of Argentina,” says Editor Amanda Barnes. “Our previous two tastings were a great success but this year we are taking it beyond the usual, boring point system. Categories are focused on showcasing unusual wines and judges are being asked to not only score on the wines’ quality, but also how well they perform in the category.”
Categories for 2013 include Terroir Torrontes, with different Torrontes wines selected from around the country, each representing a different terroir and style; unusual varieties with wineries pioneering high quality wines not usually found in Argentina; and a tasting of 10 year old Malbecs (which also coincide with being made the same year the magazine started). Although the wines participating are secret for now, you can expect to see big names as well as some new and boutique operations.
Who better to judge this tasting than a panel of internationally trained experts? Seven judges will be marking the wines and they comprise of sommeliers, professional tasters, winemakers and wine professionals. The jury this year includes flying winemakers Roberto de la Mota, Gabriela Celeste, Jose Spisso and Duncan Killiner, as well as Cristina Pandolfi from the INV, wine journalist Jose Bahamonde and sommelier Martin Mantegini.
